SELF-ESTEEM (KNOW AND LOVE YOURSELF)
In Peru today, mental health is severely deteriorated. The situation is alarming, noting that more than six million Peruvians suffer from a mental disorder and require medical attention. About 20% of Peruvians suffer from depression, anxiety, stress or other more complex disorders that derive from episodes of violence and/or addictions that can lead to psychosis.
However, only 10% have received treatment, due to the lack of mechanisms to prevent and cure mental disorders (MINSA, 2019). In the latest report of the Ombudsman office, only 0.1% of the national budget is designated to treat mental health.
The Ministry of Health reported that between 60% and 70% of patients treated in mental health services are under 18 years of age. The frequent reasons for consultation are emotional (anxiety and depression), behavioral, learning and development problems.
Nuestra Solución
The Community Mental Health Program called "KNOW AND LOVE YOURSELF" is a psychoeducational program, aimed at parents, teachers and school children, belonging to communities settled in the Amazon rainforest, Andean highlands, and the dry desert Coast of Peru.
The project aims to teach schoolchildren, parents, teachers, and to learn to know themselves (self-concept) and value (self-esteem) themselves. Know who they are as individual beings and as members of a community. Valuing what they know about themselves and their community as their uses, ancestral customs, and natural resources. When an individual or member of a community develops and strengthens their personal and social identity, they are able to contribute to the progress of their people, taking care of and making use of their natural resources to meet their basic and secondary needs and to generate sustainable jobs that allow them to have social welfare and quality of life.
Our program will be applied in communities throughout Peru, starting our pilot in jungle communities due to the urgent need for help and changing their current situation of poverty and extreme poverty, then it will be replicated in the mountains and finally on the coast, respecting cultural diversity. of each region.
The sample will be made up of parents, teachers, and school-age children, belonging to the schools and families of each community.
The work focus is Rational Emotive Behavioral. The applied methodology is theoretical and practical.

Many of the girls will be mothers in their adolescence, or they will not finish high school, parents in the rural communities of the highlands and rainforest give priority to the education of their boys, this inequality of opportunity must change and it is possible with an adequate self-esteem program.

One of the oldest people in the Misminay community reading the coca leaves to a group of tourists.
The community began to respect and value the knowledge of the elderly who feel very happy about this change that was achieved for them before they felt little value because they did not have the strength to work on the farmland, they felt very sad and depressed to the point of not finding meaning in life, today everything has been changing thanks to our community workshops
We want to contribute to the individual and community mental health, teaching and strengthening the self-concept and self-esteem of the members of the communities. Self-concept and self-esteem are fundamental elements, generators of physical, psychological, social, and economic well-being of people as individual beings and as social beings.
Self-esteem and self-concept are fundamental elements of good mental and community health. If a person has an adequate concept and self-esteem, she will value her personal and social identity and will be an active and participative being in the social and economic development of her community.
Good mental health is about having and maintaining adequate psychological well-being. Having psychological well-being involves a person's healthy thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. So, too, is to develop and maintain good self-concept, self-esteem, emotional and social skills, and values that allow the individual to cope - in an adaptive and healthy way - with the world, life, and interpersonal relationships.
In our project, we will focus on developing and strengthening self-concept and self-esteem, considering it the main factor for psychological well-being and mental health. We will apply a specific program for the prevention of self-concept and self-esteem, in children, parents, and teachers.
By educating and re-educating self-concept and self-esteem, children, parents, and teachers learn to know and love themselves. To have confidence in their intellectual, emotional, and social capacities. To face and face their lives with emotional stability and responsibility.
